TITLE: INSTITUTIONAL STUDENT EMPLOYMENT PROGRAM

General Fund monies are made available annually to assist some students in securing employment and to assist the institution in filling certain vacancies.

Eligibility. Individuals receiving institutional work monies must be enrolled at least part time. They must demonstrate that their enrollment is dependent on financial assistance through employment. In addition, the institution must be in need of their job skills in order to fill an existing institutional student employment vacancy. The purpose of this fund is to assist students not eligible for federal funding such as ABE/GED students. A second purpose is to place students on this program, regardless of need, if they possess a skill or experience the institution has need of for a normally assigned student position, and for which no work-study qualified applicant is available.

Application.

A. Needy students will normally be referred by counselors, instructors, or financial aid personnel. When it has been determined that the student does not meet federal work-study criteria, the student will be considered for the institutional employment program. No formal application process is required. The decision regarding the student's eligibility as well as a total amount of money the student may earn will rest with the Financial Aid Office.

B. When the institution needs a student employee in a job previously filled by a college work-study student and for which no college work-study student is available, the job will be posted. Any interested student applicant possessing the required skills will be considered. If there is more than one applicant, the supervisor will be allowed to select from among those referred by the Work/Study Placement Office.

Coordination. All authorizations for institutional employment originate in the Financial Aid Office. The purpose of the program is to provide flexibility. Student need will be considered, but so will the need of the institution to carry out the functions of the Financial Aid Office.
