ADMINISTRATIVE RULE NO: C203

RELATED TO POLICY SERIES NO: 7090

TITLE: THE AWARDING OF FINANCIAL AID - PRIORITY

Because the awarding of aid at Linn-Benton Community College takes place over an extended period of time, the same priorities for aid will be followed at each awarding. Students with the greatest financial need will be given first priority. Need will be determined by: (a) using the standard student budget, +/- budget adjustments; (b) subtracting expected parent contribution (when this is applicable); (c) subtracting the student's contribution from assets, savings, resources such as spouse's employment, GI Bill, social security, vocational rehabilitation or student's own employment.

The results of a, b, c is NEED. On the basis of need, grant determination will be made first taking into account potential Pell, State Need Grant, and scholarship eligibility. If the student's resources and aid to this point do not equal one-half of the student budget, the balance of the one-half of the maximum potential need may be met with Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant not to exceed $1200 on a nine-month budget. When up to one-half of the student's maximum allowable need is met, the balance of the institutionally controlled aid provided to the student will be primarily self-help. To the extent that funding is available and students have a preference for a certain type of self-help aid, based on their need, the student's preference will be taken into consideration. The one-half self-help formula will be modified if the financial aid office believes it would cause undue hardship to the particular student.
