TITLE: HONORARY DEGREES AND AWARDS
It is the policy of
DISTINGUISHED CITIZEN AWARD
The following is a list of criteria for
selection of persons for the Distinguished Citizen Award.
The person has:
1. Served the college for several years in a continuous
capacity (suggested minimum eight years)
2. Made
significant contributions of time and energy to
3. Had
a major influence on the college, its philosophy, and purpose
HONORARY DEGREES
The following criteria should be used to
guide the Board ad hoc committee in its deliberations regarding recipients of
an honorary degree.
1. The
recipient should have made a contribution to the college and/or his/her
community and/or the nation and/or education over a period of time.
2. The
recipient's life and behavior should reflect favorably upon him/herself and on
the college.
DISTINGUISHED ALUMNUS
The Distinguished Alumnus award honors alumni
who have demonstrated outstanding accomplishments in their respective
profession and/or through service to their community.
The recipient should have:
1.
Completed
a minimum of 36 credits at Linn-Benton Community College.
2.
Made
a significant contribution to LBCC, the community, the nation or education over
a period of time.
Nominations: Distinguished
Alumnus nominations may be submitted by a faculty member, staff, student,
community member, or LBCC Board of Education member. A nomination form and annual award timeline
will be available via the LBCC website.
The LBCC President and LBCC Board of Education awards committee will
select the recipient.
EMERITUS STATUS
The award of Emeritus
status to a retiring, or retired, full-time administrator, faculty member or
classified employee is to be considered an honor bestowed in recognition of
meritorious contributions to the college over an extended period.
1. Eligibility:
Emeritus status shall be granted to individuals who have performed in one or
more of the areas of teaching, scholarship, and/or service in an exemplary
manner over an extended period (20 years).
Of prime importance is demonstration of a strong commitment to the
college, its goals, and general well-being as an academic institution in the
community.
2. Nominations:
Nominations for Emeritus awards may be made by any peer or group of peers, or
the individual wishing the designation, or the Board of Education. Nominations should include a brief summary
statement in support of each individual.
Nominations shall be forwarded to the college President and the college Board of Education Awards Committee with input and
recommendations from the college staff.
3. Benefits:
Emeritus honorees shall receive benefits as honorary designees at the
discretion of the college President.
