TITLE: STUDENT
MEETINGS ON AND OFF CAMPUS
The
Board believes that if students are to develop their full academic and social
potential, it is important that they have opportunities to meet, to discuss,
and to inquire in a context of democratic citizenship and respect for the
rights of others.
The
regulations set forth below have been adopted not to hinder free discussion but
to encourage students to exercise this right while recognizing their responsibilities
to their institution and to their fellow students.
On
Campus
Students
may assemble and hold informal discussion meetings anywhere on campus, provided
that:
a)
such activities do not interfere with
the ongoing curricular or student activities program or with the rights of
those not participating.
b)
they are conducted during the hours
that the college in normally in operation.
c)
there is reasonable consideration for
fair play, good taste, and law and order both by speakers and audience.
Any
activity in the nature of a formal meeting or gathering must be cleared with
the appropriate administrator at least 48 hours in advance of the event.
Off
Campus
Students
identifying themselves with Linn-Benton Community College may not sponsor, join
in sponsoring, hold or attend off-campus events without securing prior
permission. When students are
affiliated with Linn-Benton Community College organizations, the permission
must be secured from the staff advisor of the organization. In the case of individual students,
permission must be obtained from the Dean or her/his designee.
