REPORT:
What
is the Foundation doing – Marlene
v Retention Scholarships
Foundation is giving
scholarships a little differently, which translates to more money for each
student. This year 116
scholarships of $1,500 will be awarded: $750 in winter term and $750 in spring term. There are two categories: 40% are based
on merit (student must be enrolled for at least 6 credits and in good
standing). Applicants in that category do NOT have to fill out FAFSA. 60% are based on need (those applicants
DO have to fill out FAFSA). Accelerated
training programs are not eligible, but two Rad. Tech. scholarships will be
awarded. The Foundation will be
advertising the availability of those scholarships as soon as school starts. Marlene noted that the 6 credits needed
to be eligible for both types of scholarships must be taken at LBCC. Application is on website as
usual. Deadline will be same as other
scholarships. She also reported
that the Foundation will be awarding 58 scholarships of $1,500 to recruit new
students, and staff is currently working on qualifications/criteria and majors
for those scholarships. ÒBrand new
studentÓ is defined as never admitted to LBCC (so could have been here part-time,
but if not admitted, that student would qualify for this scholarship.) Intent is to impact enrollment by
recruiting new students.
v Faculty summer internships
Faculty summer
internships will be offered by the Foundation; criteria for award is not yet
determined. Faculty members will
receive a stipend for the summer to work with an employer in their major field,
with the goal of bringing new information and skills back to the classroom. Marlene reported that the Foundation will
likely pull together a faculty committee to work on this.
Communication:
Deans are encouraged to
share Foundation information with their faculty
OLD BUSINESS
v Governance/Report of Sept. 6 JOLT meeting
The final version of
College Council Charter, including what we accomplished in 05-06, was
distributed. Chairs will continue
to work on charters for other councils and standing committees. Some suggested changes to AR A101,
including portions of the new charter, were distributed to College Council
members.
Future
Agenda: October for AR
A101 first reading.
Action:
Send ReneŽ suggested
changes for the membership of
councils and standing committees if you are a contact person.
v Strategic Planning/Debriefing of Inservice and Retreat/Proposed
Action Feedback
Rita has had 3
conversations on feedback from retreat.
Question has arisen if action plan is being integrated with IE, or are
we to do both? Rita noted that we
are trying to narrow down the action plan items and Mike noted that IE process
will continue and goals will be developed, however, if departments &
divisions can focus on which, if any, they want to think about as an activity
or goal, they should go ahead and do that now. We are trying to get a quick read, after meeting with deans
next week, on action plans. Rita
noted that administration is working to flip the budget process so that input
on values of college come in at the start of the process, not at the end.
Construction
Update – Kevin
Ann A. reported that nursing
has their office area, but are pretty stressed since they are moving in so
close to classes. Testing moved
last night. Lynn and Nancy will
move this week, and Kathy Chafin will move into their area. KevinÕs staff has been excellent during
all the moves. Contractors have
been asked to put up more signage so that students, especially, stay out of
construction areas.
Future
Agenda: Continued monthly
updates
Action:
Please bring incorrect
sandwich signs to MarleneÕs attention.
BOARD POLICIES AND
ADMINISTRATIVE RULES
Board Policy 7070-
Students Rights, Responsibilities and Conduct Code
Changes
since first reading: 1) the ÒunlawfulÓ
in Òunlawful behaviorÓ has been deleted since that would limit us to only
protected groups 2) add language to membership policies Òcollege reserves the
right to deny certification for student groups that may pose a health or safety
riskÓ. 3) parents ÒmayÓ be notified for underage students, 4) Òinstructional
areasÓ rather than classes (broadens the scope).
