DEIT Subcommittee Reports:

q      Training Subcommittee (Ann Adams).  Ann reports that this committee will be meeting soon.  In the meantime, she is continuing to send out tech tips, and information to committee members about various web trainings available through the internet.

q      Web Presence (Marlene Propst).   Marlene noted that this committee continues to work on their goals (handout available upon request from Lori Rowton in Media Services), and that noticeable changes have been made on the college web site,  as recommended by web consultant, Alan Koch.  Marlene informed the committee that they are also working on an Administrative Rule procedure to define how linnbenton.edu can be used, and who can use it on their web pages.

q      Student Services (Diane Watson).   Diane shared that this committee is working on its next four-year plan.  One of the goals they are working on is the development of a first generation web site, which would allow students to get their questions answered online, in a friendly and timely manner.  Diane also notes that there continues to be progress with the Turning Point and Transition program, which endeavors to help and identify students at risk.  Dael Dixon talked about the Career with a Conscience online program, which provides students online access to career options, such as, volunteer opportunities, internships, local jobs and more.  Lynn Bain also notes that progress is really picking up for access to the Online Student Orientation.  Diane introduced employment specialist, Carla Raymond, who gave a presentation of the online employment database, developed by Kate Johnson.  This database uses existing database records from Employment Services, and through web access allows people to view jobs online, perform job searches, view job referrals, allows individuals to set up and maintain their own profiles, and many other searchable functions.  The web site address is cf.linnbenton.edu/joblist

q      Technology Infrastructure (tech fee) (Alan Heywood).  Alan reported that at this sub-committee¹s second meeting, members met and reviewed the status of current projects, budget expenditures, and five new tech fee requests.  He added that they continue to be under budget for expenditures, and that they are essentially caught up on approved projects.  As a result, the committee was able to approve all five new requests for completion this year.  Alan also shared that the college now has a transceiver, which will increase our opportunities through cable to reach more communities.  On a final note, Alan said this sub-committee is looking at whether or not software requests are appropriate for the use of tech fee funds, and has decided at this time it will consider requests under $1000, on a case-by-case basis.  The committee will review software policies after it has more history to base a decision on.

.

q      Technology Initiatives (Ann Adams).  Ann Adams chaired the first committee meeting in Alan Heywood¹s absence, and reports that their meeting was an introductory meeting.  Members basically reviewed what modalities, future technology and funding criteria are to be used, to help them determine what recommendation should be given to the college for future planning.  The committee brainstormed several questions to be reviewed at the next meeting in a couple of weeks.
