2001-03 COLLEGE-WIDE GOALS
In conjunction with the Linn-Benton Community College Mission Statement, the college-wide goals that follow are intended to organize and direct the work of the College for the next two years. Departments and divisions will develop action strategies to support these college-wide goals; departments and divisions will also need to develop methods to track the progress of their action strategies. The College expects that the action strategies developed by departments and divisions will be carefully crafted and rigorous. The College welcomes the difficult challenges presented by these goals because it recognizes that the prize of continued improvement is purchased through hard work. The goals that follow are purposely calculated to value student learning and student success. We believe that all other values and priorities of Linn-Benton Community College are encompassed by our commitment to student learning.
A Commitment to Multicultural Diversity. GOAL #1: LBCC will increase the multicultural diversity of its employees and student body. Moreover, LBCC will integrate diversity and multiculturalism into its curriculum, identity, marketing and promotion, and other features of its operations and interactions.
A Commitment to Student Learning and Student Development. GOAL #2: LBCC will strengthen student learning and student development through continuous improvement of all its programs, including those that serve employers, partnership clients, or other targeted populations. This involves well-developed program outcomes, authentic assessment of program outcomes, and an emphasis on using assessment results to inform future actions. It also includes a commitment to supporting professional development activities that result in improved student learning and student development, and implementation of a faculty appraisal system that fosters professional growth.
A Commitment to Accessible Programs. GOAL #3: LBCC will enhance student access by decreasing barriers to programs and courses. Efforts to support this goal might include such things as increasing the flexibility of the academic calendar and class schedule, providing greater variety in instructional styles and course delivery, enhanced availability of advising and counseling services, improved facilities and technology, and more accommodating systems and services for trainings and other special offerings. The College will also explore partnerships and alliances to enhance access for students.
A Commitment to Student Success. GOAL #4: LBCC will enhance the support systems and services that work to ensure the success and retention of enrolled students. Student advising systems, mentoring and tutoring systems, assessment and follow-up, financial aid, student activities, athletics and cultural events, and many other services all present opportunities for the College to review its practices and improve.
A Commitment to Quality Service and Facilities. GOAL #5: LBCC will: 1) maintain facilities, in all locations, that are conducive to student learning, and are safe, efficient, and accessible; and 2) maintain a customer service orientation that is consistently marked by courtesy, respect, and efficiency.
A Commitment to Appropriate Technology. GOAL #6: LBCC will invest in technology to support student learning and student development. The College will continue to support true "education at a distance" efforts, but it will also increase those instructional technology investments that enhance "face to face" learning environments. This goal will require substantial investments in faculty and staff training, technology based curriculum materials, and equipment. (Technology, within the context of this goal, is not limited to computers or traditional degree and certificate programs.)
