Phillip Long identifies four levels of technology-oriented classrooms. Each has implications for teacher training and long-range planning for facilities. How do these categories relate to our use and planning of technology-oriented facilities at LBCC? Can we (should we) use these categories to describe what we currently have at LBCC?

Supports origination and display of two-way video conferencing with mini-TV studio. Often TV cameras (more than one) mounted with robotic drivers to follow the instructor or switch to pre-set visual field), microphones, CODEC for video compression, (plus previous level technologies available in classroom).

Level 1: Basic Provides technology-enhanced teaching rooms: videotape/DVD player, TV set, screen, slide projector and overhead projector .
Level 2: Enhanced Supports plug-in and display computer images (from podium computer or laptop). Audio amplifier, various audio input sources (CD player, videotape/DVD player, video/data projector, recessed media panel and lectern, large screen, slide projector and overhead projector) .
Level 3: Expanded Provides every student in classroom with computer resources (computers or ports for laptops). Teachers may be able to show student work on large screen or send selected images to all student computers (plus previous level technologies available in classroom)..
